Top 10 Sites You Must Visit in Your Tour to Iran
When you set out on your tour to Iran, you may be confused by the vast number of interesting sites to visit. It is quite perplexing to decide which sites are to be given preference over others. So it is vital to find out the must-see sites before you visit Iran. It will certainly give you great pleasure to think that your vacations are well planned and you make the best of the available time.
There are certain sites in Iran which you must never miss. So, visit Iran for these sites:
O Golestan Palace, Tehran: This is a site you must include during your tour to Iran. Built when the Safavid dynasty came into power, it is enclosed within the Arg or the citadel in Tehran. It housed the royal family for years. This beautiful rose palace is also witness to several important coronation ceremonies carried out here. There are hundreds of meters of beautiful tile work on the courtyard walls of the palace. To preserve its antiquity, UNESCO is being requested to include it in the world heritage list.
O Persepolis, Shiraz: Built over a span of 180 years on the sloping sides of Mount Rahmat, this is the Takht-e-Jamshid which still stands in defiance over the city of Shiraz. Attempts to destroy the site by Alexander were successful to a large extent and what remain today are the ruins of a fire ravaged building. But the artistic sculptures are relatively intact and you must see this when you visit Iran.
O Nagsh-e-Rostam, Shiraz: This is a site containing four tombs of the great Archaemenian kings including Darius I. The openings to these tombs are in the shape of Mithraism crosses. There is also a cubic building (Kabe-ye-Zartosht, meaning Zarathustra's Cube) on a ziggurat-like foundation with steps in front of the huge rock which you can see on your tour to Iran.
O Tomb of Cyrus, the Great, Shiraz: When you visit Iran, remember to go to this Pasargadae which contains the tomb of the founder of the Persian Empire, Cyrus, the Great. It used to have beautiful gardens around it with so many trees that at the time of invasion, it could not be easily located. This site was again invaded and robbed by Alexander.
O Siosepol(Bridge), Isfahan: This bridge was built over 400 years ago and still is a constant reminder of the engineering greatness of the people in those ages. It is a very long bridge in Isfahan and is considered to be an amalgamation of 33 arches. Your tour to Iran must cover this fabulous relic.
O Imam Square, Isfahan: Located at the heart of Isfahan, this wonderful historical site is a place around which all the important buildings of Isfahan are situated. It has the Shah mosque, Ali Qapu palace, Sheikh Lotf Allah mosque and the Grand Bazaar. The all-important Friday prayers are also held here.
O Imam Khomeini Mosque(Shah Mosque), Isfahan: The seven-color mosaic tiles are the hallmark of this imposing monument in the Imam Square. The calligraphic inscriptions also speak volumes of the architectural beauty of the Persian kingdom, and which you must see on your tour to Iran.
O Sheikh Lotfallah Mosque, Isfahan: Dedicated to Shekh Lotfallah, a Lebanese religious preacher, this was a mosque for the ladies. The architectural wonders of this place are worth seeing when you visit Iran. The Safavid dynasty takes credit for building this masterpiece.
O Friday Mosque, Isfahan: With the largest courtyard in Iran and a marvelous marble pool, you cannot miss this architectural wonder on your tour to Iran. It is also called the Masjid-e-Jomeh and is a mute spectator to the evolution of Iranian architecture throughout the centuries.
O Abyaneh village: This is a really old-world village near Kashan in Isfahan. The villagers conform to their own dressing styles and have preferred to retain their antiquity despite great progress in the rest of Iran.
When you visit Iran, you will surely be bowled over by the visual beauty of this place. In fact, you will wish to come back here and experience the greatness of this place.
