Carpeting has been the flooring material of choice for many homeowners for decades but these days there are a few myths that seem to be rather prevalent that have some people wondering if carpet really is the right choice for them. Today we would like to have a look at a few of them and help you decipher the fact from the fiction:
Carpet Myth = If you suffer from allergies having carpet in your home will make them worse.
This is a very common misconception about modern carpeting and in fact the absolute reverse is actually the truth, according to no less than the EPA. According to them carpet fibers may actually help those who suffer from allergies of all kinds because they trap airborne irritants, get them out of the air and make it easier to just vacuum them away.
Carpet Myth- Carpet wears out too quickly and it is a nuisance to maintain.
Maybe vacuuming isn't everybody's favorite chore but it is not exactly rocket science. To keep your carpets looking their best they should be vacuumed regularly and then treated to a good professional cleaning every 12 months or so.
When it comes to wear as long as you select the right carpet grade for the traffic levels in the rooms where it is to be installed they should have quite a long "lifespan"
Carpet Myth 3 - Carpet is boring and outdated
Hardly. These days carpets are available in any color you can think of and are a great way to add an extra designer touch to any decor - however modern or futuristic.
Carpet Myth - Carpet emits too many VOCs
Nonsense. According to the great folks at the Environmental Protection Agency modern carpets emit fewer VOCs than any other furnishing product or building material.
The real fact is that what flooring material you choose should be dictated by your personal sense of style and what works in your home. Most homeowners these days actually have several different types of flooring in the various different rooms in their house. Carpet is still a great choice for most of them (carpeted bathrooms tend to be a little passe) as one visit to a good flooring showroom will demonstrate.
